Strike the Balance: Effective Social Media Sharing and Marketing

Many marketing managers might argue against what we’re discussing today, but hear me out. The common belief is that you should constantly tell your story, share links back to your website, and boast about what you do—100% of the time.

That's good advice to an extent. You want people to know who you are, why you're the best, and how you can help them. However, link after link and a sales-heavy approach can quickly be a turn-off. People will tune you out if you come off as too pushy.

Think of your own social media habits. If someone shares the same link repeatedly, you'd probably unfollow them. It’s annoying. You follow brands for specific reasons. While some brands do repeatedly showcase their products, most do it alongside other engaging content.

The true purpose of social media is to educate and entertain. That means not just sharing why you’re the best, but also providing entertaining and valuable content. I’m not talking about sending out spammy emails like Michael Scott. I’m talking about good, quality content. Share things from your industry and community that are genuinely interesting. This keeps your followers engaged and coming back for more.

Today's tip: Share. Share frequently. Share from trustworthy outlets and businesses and provide more to your followers than just your usual sales pitch.
