The AP released a very interesting article going into great detail about how news destinations are trying to hit a younger generation through social media, such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and more. Obviously the younger generation is on social media...a lot...so why not try to bring the news to them, where they already are? Well, that is pretty obvious. The AP is generating TikTok videos, news industries are bringing in those they want to reach as employees (younger, more skilled in social media marketing, etc..) and an interesting study straight from the article. Some 60% of people in Gen Z, or young adults up to their mid-20s, say they get news through social media, according to a study by Oliver Wyman and the News Movement. Other studies show people in Gen Z have a lower opinion of traditional news outlets than their elders. So, what does this mean for your business, even if you aren't in the news reporting arena? You NEED to be on social. You NEED to be active. You NEED to be telling not only your story, but the story of who you truly are and who your brand truly is, to your audience. News is not how it once was. A traditionalist will see one article they consider news and 2 articles that are entertainment. The same principal can go into play with your business. Equations and what we share on social is not only for 1 industry - it applies to them all. As news adjusts and changes how they produce and distribute content...you must change as well.
